I was working on a performance today with the G2's hooked up to my new computer, so when I got USB trouble I suspected that new computer to be the problem, or the USB cables maybe.

So I changed the cables, disconnected one of the two G2's, reinstalled the Clavia USB driver and what not. Then I decided to try it on this laptop I'm now typing on, and I have the same problems, so this seems to be something with the patch ...

The attached patch will load fine and it will play (but it needs an expanded G2 to sound right due to some weirdness in slot A). When however I try to add some modules to slot D (or try to turn some knob on a module in that slot, or make a new connection, any edit action in act seems to be sufficient given enough time) the synth and computer will loose connection. And sometimes its enough to just load the patch and wait to loose connection.

Anyone else having this behaviour, on this patch or maybe on others ?

When the USB problem occurs the patch keeps making sound, but the internal MIDI traffic seems to stop (I hear no more variation changes), but its not possible to check this as I can only reconnect to the G2 after rebooting it (and so loosing the actual situation on the patch).

In fact to me it looks most like the control processor in the G2 crashed.

Errr... I have a gig tomorrow night and just spent hours loading and tweaking patches and performances. I think I'll wait until I get back to try this. Idea

Ouch!

Yes, this patch crashes my G2X only a few seconds after loading. Strange - many of the G2X front panel knobs, buttons, and displays stop working - but I was able to load a perf from memory and get the thing to act normal again and now the USB connection is restored.

Thanks for trying varice, it really drove me nuts yesterday. It's interesting that by loading another patch the USB comes back on, maybe the G2 does not crash but just is very very busy with something it sees as important.

Howard I can't blame you for that, have fun !

I'll make a report for Clavia and move this to the bugs thread.

Works on my unexpanded engine. Maybe it's an expansion or polyphony thing? All the patches in the perf on mine have less voices than requested.

I tried to make a sort of a voice muliplexer in slot A, trying to use the one delay four times in a serial way. The voice area of the patch in slot A is large enough to require 4 DSPs, so there is quite some audio bussing involved, although I'm not quite sure about what I'm trying to accomplish Very Happy

In retrospect I think that the patch in slot A may be causing the problem. I tried to expand on the performance in a different way than in the above patch and I ran into other problems as well (I now have slot that doesn't make sound anymore and the variation changes don't seem to work properly either, but it doesn't crash the USB link).

Time to try something diferent I guess.
